Tara began skating when she was only 6 years old. She was a natrual and progressed very quickly. In 1996 she entered her first U.S. National Championships as a Senior and took home the bronze medal. And in 1997 she went to Nationals and won the gold. She then became the youngest woman to ever win the gold at the World Championships. In 1998 she faced some difficulties at the U.S. Nationals but fought back and took the silver. She had earned a spot on the Olympic team. At the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan she made history again by becoming the youngest Olympic Champion ever. A few months after her Olympic victory she turned professional and has enjoyed touring with Stars on Ice since.
