Xue began skating in 1985 when she was 7 years old. She showed great talent from the beginning. Hongbo, like Xue, was 7 years old when he began skating in 1980. He skated pairs with Maomao Xie until 1992 when they broke up and he began skating with Xue. Since teaming up Xue and Hongbo have risen to the top of the skating world. They have won two silver medals (1999 and 2000) and one bronze (2001) at the World Championships before taking home the gold this year and becoming the first Chinese pairs team to be World Champions. At the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, Xue and Hongbo won the bronze medal.
