Tim began skating when he was 4 years old when his parents took him to a mall for skating lessons. He progressed quickly and when he was 11 his parents sent him to Cleveland Ohio to train with Carol Heiss Jenkins. Because of his slender frame he was able to rotate quickly and learn difficult jumps.

One of the biggest decisions he's made so far in his career was when he switched coaches at the end of the 1999-2000 season. He now trains with Frank Carroll in California.

Tim has become known as "The King of the Quad" because of his ability to flawlessly execute quadruple jumps.

He made history at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games by being the first person to land a quadruple salchow in combination. At the Olympics he landed one quad in his short program and three quads in his long program.

Tim took home the bronze medal at the Olympic Games and the silver at the 2002 World Championships in Nagano, Japan.
